This defines and describes comedian/ actor Leon Rogers' style of
comedy, pure spontaneous raw energy. His imitation and parody of singers
and their songs (GINUWINE, RICKY MARTIN and TINA TURNER) and sports stars
(ALLEN IVERSON and MICHAEL JORDAN) make him one of the most create and
unique comics on the circuit right now. Always having the ability to bring
a smile to people's faces young and old, Leon decided that in 1996
that he would share his funny world with the masses. The Chicago native
has created a big buzz in a short amount of time in the entertainment
industry with is very creative and unique style of comedy.
Leon first approached the mic at Chicago's All Jokes Aside Comedy
Club, which has broke the careers of some of the windy city's top
comedians such as Bernie Mac and the late great Robin Harris. Four (4)
months after his first time touching the stage, Leon entered the
prestigious
Miller Genuine Draft Comedy Search. Amongst the Three hundred (300) competitors
in this comedy search, Leon finished in Fourth (4th) place due
to his pure and natural talent shined through his then unpolished delivery.
Five (5) years later in 2001, Leon came back and won the contest beating
out other up and coming Chicago comedians such as B COLE and DAMON WILLIAMS.
He then took his act on the road opening for such headlining comedians
like EDDIE GRIFFIN, D. L. HUGHLEY, STEVE HARVEY, CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER,
BERNIE MAC, PATTI La BELLE, ARETHA FRANKLIN, FRANKIE BEVERLY and MAZE.
Cedric "The Entertainer" was so impressed by Leon's
ability to take over a crowd and his natural ability to just make people
laugh, he invited Leon to be a feature act on his national Thirty (30)
city Bud Light presents "CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER COMEDY REVUE"
comedy tour in 2001. Leon is also featured on the Tour concert DVD/ VHS
entitled "CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER's STARTING LINEUP –
Volume Two". He has also been a headliner for the last two (2) years
on the RJE Urban Comedy Cabaret Tour, which is the largest, highest grossing,
and longest running comedy tour catering to colleges/ universities in
the nation.
Leon has also found success as a budding actor. His quick wit and energetic
persona also landed him a spot in the 1995 HBO produced movie "THE
TUSKEGEE AIRMEN" starring Laurence Fishburne and Oscar Winning actor
Cuba Gooding Jr. He was also featured in the 2002 hit movie "BARBER
SHOP" staring ICE CUBE and Cedric "The Entertainer"
that was shot in his hometown of Chicago.
Leon Rogers is a sure hit on any stage and is a sure budding star in the
making.
